Lagoon 42 TPI
Built between 1992 and 1995,
the Lagoon 42 TPI are boats designed with the style and layout
quality that accelerated the popularity of the cruising
catamaran in the United States. The Lagoon 42's were
built by Jeanneau TPI techniques avancees in the USA
with their state-of-the-art resin infusion process and
designed by the innovative French naval architects Marc
Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prevost. The optimized
hull construction uses balsa and vinyl ester resin which
saves weight and improves performance and sea-keeping.
The high standard of construction is the reason these
yachts keep their value very well, so this is your
chance! Only 51 of them were built, it was just too
expensive to do a real mass production.
Personal opinion:
We should know, we own this boat and very
regularly sail it on the open ocean in the Windward
Islands, which can be way rougher than a crossing of an
ocean! The underside of
the central part (bridgedeck) is
higher above the water than modern catamarans, so much
less slamming when the sea is rough.
Other comments:
These 42 TPI boats are built way stronger than the
newer factory boats that get all the structural stress
cracks. We regularly speak with sailors of all the newer
models (including other brands) and they marvel at the
fact that you can just walk on the deck without feeling
the entire boat move.
This particular boat has
been in moorings charter business from about 1993 till 1998, then
did daycharters between Union to the Tobago Cays (total
distance 3 miles each way) till 2005. Present owner,
which would be me, lightly chartered for up to 6
passengers until now.
That means you can customize your own gadgets!
She is fully functional,
but could use some extras. Atlantis has mainly been
sailing the Grenadines and every year to either
Martinique or Grenada for haulouts most of its life,
total distance 170 miles, so all we need are a compass,
charts, a depthsounder and a mobile phone for weather
forecasts..
BUT she is
priced to sell by owner at $170000
$150000
$130000 negotiable
